Uplifting shower scents for post-workouts

I don’t know about you, but when I’m post-workout – hot, sweaty, sticky and yes, probably smelly – the last thing I want is to be doused in cloud of jasmine or chocolate or musk. Anything overly flowery or gourmand or heavy is likely to induce shortness of breath in me, which is not good given that I’d already be sort of breathless post-workout. Fruity scents seem to generally work well for after a workout, but here are my favourite in-shower scents for post-workout (kindly excuse the sad photography):

1) Avalon Organics Peppermint Shower Gel: This feels and smells amazing when your muscles are burning after a workout. The peppermint scent is sweet and sharp, and goes all the way up to your head (you know what I mean… right?). The gel also leaves a pleasantly tingly, cooling sensation on your skin, a bit like Vaporub. Especially a must-have for those who live in hot climates!

2) Korres Fig Shower Gel: This smells like the shower gel version of my favourite perfume, Diptyque Philosykos, but woodier and sweeter. Despite it’s sweetness, it smells fresh and clean and pure, like you’re taking a bath in a Mediterranean river just under a fig tree… if that’s scientifically possible.

3) Lush Ponche Shower Gel: This is for cooler days, when you want your citrus mixed with something a little warmer or spicier. According to the Lush website, this has orange juice, tequila, plum and cinnamon infusions, and having tried it I’d say the booze is quite evident in this. However, I believe this was limited edition, and I keenly regret not getting a backup.

4) The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Shower Gel: If I had to describe this shower gel in one word, it would be ‘zippy’. It’s your typically bright, uplifting citrus scent, but incredibly well done. The Body Shop does a lot of fruit-scented shower gel, but this one takes the cake in my opinion.

5) Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Bath & Shower Oil: This isn’t quite for post-workout, but for the day after a workout, when muscles you didn’t know you had are aching and you can’t walk down stairs without an incredible amount of pain and effort. This smells like something you’d get in a luxury spa, and you can give yourself a massage in the bath/shower for the full spa experience. (And, okay, I feel like all of the Aromatherapy Associates Bath & Shower Oils would work.)

Hope this was helpful. What are your favourite post-workout shower scents?
