A re-look at my New Year’s Resolutions

My resolutions were to:

1) Shop my stash.

2) Get more sleep.

3) Clear my emails each day.

4) Start the day with fruit juice.

5) Experiment with my hair.


Sadly, with the exception of exactly ONE, none of these resolutions has been adhered to. I must say however that the fault has not been mine entirely. 2013 was set to be a sucky year because I had trials fixed all the way till September. It looked to be a busy year and January has proven to be extremely, extremely busy and tiring and terrible.

My average time for leaving the office has been something like 1.30am while my average time for reaching the office has been something like 7.30am. So from 7.30am – 1.30am, I’d be working practically non-stop (even lunch was something I’d hop down to buy and eat in front of my computer) and then I’d sleep from 3-6am. This would include weekends. Clearly, Resolution #2 has not been adhered with. Neither has Resolution #3 nor Resolution #5, since I barely have time to breathe let alone categorise my emails nor do my hair.

It seemed hopeful for awhile that Resolution #1 would be adhered to… After all, I had no time to shop, so I couldn’t but shop from my stash. All that came to naught when my trial ended on Thursday and I had my first day of rest in weeks yesterday. I went out and blew close to $300. A dress for Zara (non-sale although there was a sale going on), a dress, a top and a skirt from Topshop (the top is cropped so I’m not sure it will ever see the light of day, although I think it is extremely flattering), two white shirts from G2000, a shower gel and the ‘Addicted to Rose’ gift set from Korres and a lipstick and a lipgloss. Guilty doesn’t even begin to describe what I’m feeling.

By way of elimination, you would have guessed by now that the only resolution I’ve stuck to has been Resolution #4 which is the only resolution that is relatively easy to do. Well – easy to do but EXTREMELY painful given how little sleep I’ve been getting. In the mornings I really do feel the sluggishness in my bones from the lack of caffeine.

Going forward, I think it will be pretty much the same except that I want to try harder for Resolution #1. For the rest, I’ve got another trial in February so  it seems unlikely that I’ll be getting more sleep, experimenting with my hair, etc.

But I want to add a new one – I want to get a bicycle and start cycling! So, that’s something else I’m going to try to do in 2013.
